This survey is being conducted by The Brief NI to gather information on the workload, resources, and working conditions of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in the Northern Ireland Assembly. It is open to all 90 MLAs.

The purpose of this survey is to collect objective, evidence-based data on MLA workloads, casework demands, staffing resources, wellbeing, and safety. Findings will be reported in aggregate to inform public understanding of the role.

Your name will be held in confidence. All results will be published in anonymised, aggregate form only — no response will be attributed to any individual MLA without explicit consent.

The survey is open from 30th March to 30th April 2026 and should take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.

You do not have to answer every question. Skip any question you would prefer not to answer — only your consent (Section 9) is required to submit.

All responses are stored securely on EU servers. Your name and email address will be held in confidence and will not be shared outside the research team. Your answers will be separated from identifying details before any data is published. Anonymised data may be shared with other media outlets. A copy of your response will be emailed to you on submission for your own record.

About you

All responses are confidential. We collect this information to allow for meaningful cross-tabulation (e.g. by community designation, gender, experience level, or disability), not to identify individuals. With only 90 MLAs, some demographic breakdowns may be too small to publish without risking identification — in those cases, data will be grouped or withheld.

Required so we can verify your response is from an MLA and send you a copy. It will not be shared outside the research team.
This refers to your party’s designated community in the Assembly — Unionist, Nationalist, or Other — as registered under the d’Hondt system.
